At its core, cubic feet is always Length × Width × Height — the only thing that changes based on your starting unit is a conversion step applied before or after that multiplication. Working in feet needs no conversion at all; inches needs a division by 1,728; meters needs a multiplication by roughly 35.31; and centimeters needs a division by roughly 28,317. If the space you're measuring isn't a simple rectangular box — an L-shaped storage area, for instance — split it mentally into two or more regular rectangular sections, calculate the cubic feet of each section separately using this calculator, and add the results together for the total volume. This works because volume is additive: the total space is exactly the sum of its individual rectangular parts, regardless of how they're arranged.

CFT for timber and stone — the trade-specific case

In India's timber and natural stone trade, CFT is calculated slightly differently in practice: length and width are measured in feet, but thickness is measured in inches, since it's a much smaller dimension. The formula is Length (ft) × Width (ft) × Thickness (in) ÷ 12.
